Matt Smiley

Matt Smiley is a bassist, composer, and educator who has performed in a variety of musical settings. He has a Bachelor's degree in Music Industry with a Jazz Studies minor from James Madison University, and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. An avid explorer of jazz history and recordings, Smiley has performed both nationally and internationally, including the Montreux, North Sea, and Montreal Jazz Festivals. Matt currently resides in Denver, Colorado, and he plays weekly with the Subterranean Jazz Ensemble at Ace Gillett's Lounge in Fort Collins, Colorado. He is a passionate educator who served on faculty at one of the first jazz camps in Costa Rica. He also teaches at the Denver School of the Arts jazz camp and with the Gift of Jazz non-profit.
