Award winning trumpeter John Hasselback III is a young talent from Buffalo, New York. Hasselback’s lyrical approach to playing and colorful tone are staples of his characteristic sound. His unique compositions captivate audiences, combining the sounds of yesterday with the sounds of tomorrow. Hasselback is a graduate of the Hartt School of Music’s Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz. In early 2016, John was one of 24 young jazz musicians/composers worldwide selected to participate in the prestigious Betty Carter Jazz Ahead residency at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. During the residency, John was privileged to work with internationally acclaimed artists Jason Moran, Eric Harland, Eric Revis, J.D. Allen, Carmen Lundy, Andre Hayward, and Cyrus Chestnut. Hasselback maintains a regular performing schedule earning recognition as Buffalo’s jazz rising star, and The Hartford Jazz Society’s emerging jazz artist. He has played at many notable venues including The Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, Smalls Jazz Club, The Apollo Music Cafe, The Side Door Jazz Club, The Lewiston Jazz Festival, The Handel Performing Arts Center, The White Plains Jazz Festival, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
